The Real China?

After all of the recent exposure the country of China has received recently, it would be nice to think that the China we have been watching on our television sets every night is the "real China". Unfortunately as much as we would like to think that a country of this size is always perfect, many are saying that this China is just the nice glossy surface that doesn't necessarily reflect the true country that lies underneath.

Like all cities that host the Olympics, Beijing has been given the job to give the rest of the world a glance at their glamorous and exciting culture. China is indeed richly steeped in culture it did obviously put on an unforgettable show. But with all of the world media watching no nation would be stupid enough not to only show "the good stuff". The controversy of the little girl lip syncing during the Opening Ceremony immediately struck criticism from people all over the world. Choosing a different girl towards the last moment because she was "cuter" shocked a lot of people. Obviously there are some ethical issues involved, however it is hard not to think that every nation would want to show the rest of the world nothing but their best...
